LIG Nex1 awarded contract to develop MANET communication systems for brigade-level and below 2025.01.03

· To develop next-generation communication equipment that drives hyper-connectivity, hyper-intelligence, and networking
· To develop modular communication devices optimized for future warfare, including warrior platforms and drone-bots

LIG Nex1 will spearhead the development of next-generation communication equipment optimized for future warfare,
such as warrior platforms, drone-bot battle systems, and Army Tiger 4.0 programs, for the Republic of Korea Army (RoKA).

LIG Nex1 announced that it has signed an agreement with the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institution (DRATRI) (Director Byon Yong-kwan)
to develop Mobile Ad-hoc NETworking (MANET) systems for brigade-level and below. The project, worth 15.3 billion won, will be completed by 2027.

Key to the MANET project is a communication system that is autonomously configured by wireless terminals in an environment without network infrastructure.
The project aims to develop a modular communication device that transmits field information from unmanned systems, such as drones, as well as combatants and vehicles,
to the brigade command post via the communication device terminal, enabling the commander to make informed decisions.

Under the contract, LIG Nex1 will develop three types of communication equipment:
a drone communication device for surveillance & reconnaissance drones, a portable communication device for combatants,
and a vehicle communication device for mounting on vehicles. Each piece of equipment will be modular, enabling it to be applied to various unmanned systems.

The brigade-level and below MANET communication system will be developed within two years as part of a rapid pilot project overseen by DRATRI.
The system will undergo a six- month performance verification test at the Army Tiger 4.0 site before the final prototype is delivered to the military.
The development and verification timelines are significantly shorter than those of traditional weapons systems, which will contribute to the timely deployment of this military equipment.

As the advancement and sophistication of weapon systems based on hyper-connectivity, hyper-intelligence, and networking rapidly progress,
the swift development of next-generation communication solutions to support this trend is emerging as a national priority.
LIG Nex1 will spearhead the development of next-generation communication systems and contribute to future military power by leveraging its technological prowess and knowhow accumulated
while developing the Tactical Multiband Multirole Radio (TMMR), a next-generation digital radio, as well as command & control and surveillance & reconnaissance solutions.
